Amazon is adding shopping to its Amazon Music app. Artist merchandise will now appear in the Amazon Music app on participating artist pages, alongside their songs, albums, live streams, and music videos.
By seamlessly linking artist products and music within the app, fans in the US can now easily purchase a selection of products spanning all genres, the majority of which are available with Prime shipping for members. Prime, ”Amazon said in Wednesday’s announcement.
Amazon has also set up an online store, Amazon Music Merch Shop, “a complete shopping experience on Amazon.com, developed and curated by the Amazon Music team.”
This is a brilliant merchandising initiative, as the two features will feed off of each other – people who use Amazon Music can purchase merchandise, and Amazon can market the music service to buyers who discover items in. the new musical merchandise store.
It appears that Amazon is limiting the merchandise offered in the Music Store to items authorized by musicians.
Amazon customers get free access to an ad-supported selection of the best playlists and stations on Amazon Music, while Prime members get access to ad-free listening to 2 million songs through Amazon Music. It also offers a premium subscription service, Amazon Music Unlimited, which gives access to over 70 million songs and the latest releases.
